There once was a little space gnome who enjoyed hopping from one solar system to the next! They loved seeing all sorts of new plants, people, and societies. They had such a passion for exploring... and they desperately wanted to be important to the people they met! The gnome longed for acceptance, and traveled far and wide to try and find it.

Over time, the gnome's hope and desire to be loved and accepted faded. No matter where they went, it seemed they never truly fit in. They were either too brightly dressed, too short, too tall, too loud, too quiet, too excited, too passionate... They always felt like they were doing something wrong. 🥀

They grew tired. The thought of traveling didn't bring that sparkle to their eyes anymore.

They didn't think they'd ever find a place to be happy.

Weren't there other folks like them? Didn't anyone care? There had to be a place in the universe were they could be themselves and be liked...! Should they stop now? Of course not but... but...

"But I'm so tired." The gnome took a seat under an apple tree for a nap. "I feel like I belong nowhere."

Sitting cross-legged and leaning against the trunk of the apple tree, Nowhere Gnome closed their eyes and began to create a new world on the blank canvas in their mind. They realized in their dreams they could bring any ideas they had to life! And so, they did just that.

Hours turned to days and days turned to weeks. They played out tons of stories in their mind where they could make tons of friends and have a family and pets! They could be important in their dreams! Why wake up when he could continue to sleep and live in the world that truly was his?

But it wasn't real.

Finally, the seasons began to change and apples began falling from the tree, one hitting Nowhere Gnome square on the head, waking them up! The gnome picked up the apple and stared at it, then took a look around at how much the world had changed while they had been in their isolated slumber.
